Griffen / Firebolt Engineering
Overview
Firebolt Engineering is a British-Ukrainian company that builds Griffen, a jet-powered fixed-wing drone for intercepting Shahed-type attack drones. Kyiv Post describes it as a joint venture between the Ukrainian design bureau Technary and the UK defense investment firm Grenadyr. The company says Griffen flies faster than 350 km/h, above 7,500 m and up to 120 km, and is launched from a catapult. In July 2026 Firebolt said Griffen had destroyed a Shahed, the first such kill in Ukraine by a jet-powered interceptor drone; this claim comes from the company. Defender Media reports production of up to 30 units a month, a price of about UAH 370,000–470,000 per drone, and use by Air Force and special-forces units. Griffen currently uses Chinese-made engines; the UK firm Dynamic Propulsion is developing a turbojet to replace them.
