OSA / First Contact
Overview
First Contact is a Ukrainian defense-technology company that says it has developed unmanned systems since 2014. It lists the OSA and VIDSICH drones and the VAL-1 underwater vehicle, and says it also integrates and supplies electronic-warfare systems and trains operators. Its best-known product, OSA (“wasp”), is a highly manoeuvrable four-motor strike quadcopter with optional AI-assisted target detection. The company lists a payload of up to 3.3 kg, a top speed of 150 km/h and a 15-minute flight time, and says it was designed entirely in Ukraine. In September 2026 DOU reported that founder Valerii Borovyk had been named to the TIME100 AI 2026 list. Citing TIME, DOU said Ukraine’s security service used Osa drones in Operation Spiderweb against Russian airbases in 2025, with AI elements that helped identify targets.
